About Braces

  1. Be careful with the types of foods you put in your mouth: Breakage of your braces will lengthen the total time of your treatment.

  2. Watch out for Hard Foods like Carrots, Apples, and French bread: Cut them into small pieces.

  3. Please Do Not Eat: Nuts, Hard Pretzels, Hard Pizza Crust, Hard Chips,Caramels, or bubblegum.

  4. Eat a balanced diet: Teeth move best in a healthy body.

  5. Take care of your braces by keeping them clean.

  6. Gums that bleed need more brushing – do not avoid them!

  7. Don't leave food around the braces. Food can block the action of springs and make the teeth move slower.

  8. The food can cause decay or white spots on the teeth and cause swollen bleeding gums. Always check around the braces after cleaning your teeth to be sure they are clean.

  9. Check braces once a week for anything loose or bent: If a bracket or band comes loose or you break a wire, please call us so that we can arrange an appointment long enough to repair it.

  10. If your teeth and gums feel sore, take a pain killer such as Tylenol (or Panadol).
